Pistons Become Lone Unbeaten Team With Win Over Mavericks

by @ 3:20 am. Filed under 1988-1989 Pistons, 1988-1989 Pistons Diary - November

November 15, 1988 at Reunion Arena
Pistons 108, Mavericks 99  (6-0)

The Pistons won and the Cleveland Cavaliers lost and that left the Pistons as the lone unbeaten team in the NBA when they beat the Dallas Mavericks.  Still, the Pistons suffered a loss when Mark Aguire applied a vicious elbow on Adrian Dantley in the opening minutes of the game.  Dantley ended up in the hospital and he had a severely cut lip and three loosened teeth.  Ironically, it’d be Mark Aguire that the Pistons would acquire for Dantley later in the season.

Bill Laimbeer had a huge game.  He scored 23 and brought home 21 rebounds.  Isiah Thomas scored ten and had twelve assists while Joe Dumars scored 16.

James Edwards led the bench warriors.  He scored 17 while John Salley scored fourteen.  Dennis Rodman had nice points and he pulled in eight rebounds.

As a team, the Pistons put up some impressive numbers.  They had 33 assists to go with just three turnovers and the outrebounded the Mavericks 47-33.  The Pistons shot .570 from the field and held Dallas to .413.
