The Pistons took care of business and Joe Dumars rained home 30 as the Pistons won their third straight to open the season. The 30 points for Dumars was a career high at the time and he also matched Isiah Thomas with nine assists. Adrian Dantley was next in the food chain with 23 points while Bill Laimbeer had a team high eleven rebounds.
The Pistons really got some help from the bench in this one. James Edwards scored 18 and that was one more point then the entire Philadelphia 76ers bench. The Microwave, Vinnie Johnson, was eight for thirteen from the field and he heated up and scored seventeen.
This game was a little closer then the scored indicated. The 76ers cut it to a four point game with 1:25 left, but Dumars hit a pair of free throws and Dennis Rodman scored a layup to put the nail in the coffin. The Pistons were particulary impressive in the first half in this game and they shot 63.6% from the field. Overall in the game, they shot at a 56% clip.
